Man it feels cold!

On the right is a temp thing that shows Sydney v London... but its so weird how cold it feels here right now!

Sydney houses are not built for the cold - we have no double glazing and no central heating! This means that a couple of degrees drop in temperature makes it REALLY cold!

This coupled with the fact that we live by the beach means that Sham and I were both wearing hoodies and socks to watch TV yesterday!

Life is still good here though, even though I still havent got anything to report on the work front... :(

On a seperate note, I know lots of friends from home are reading this blog to keep updated with what we are up to, but guys, please still keep the emails and updates coming from your end cos we would like to know what you are up to too!

Bye for now!

So glad I didn't have to go to work today!

Its been a very busy weekend!
Helen came to hang around with me on Friday early and we spent the whole afternoon watching the apprentice!
I had some of the girls over for an evening in with wine and Thai takeaway... YUMMMM

We had a car ovr the weekend so we went to see Shams cousins Shilan and Dipan and their wives and Shilans very cute kids for lunch on Sat. Was really nice as I had told Sonali (Dipans wife) that I missed eating khichi and she made us some for lunch!!

We then went to the Indian quarter out in Harris Park and did a bit of food shopping.

Saturday evening was a party at our friends Naz and Sarina's lovely house! It was great fun and we were the last people to leave!!

Sunday was spent feeling tired and hungover but not wanting to waste having the car, so we went out and bought a BBQ!!! We are going to try and use it at least once a week to make the most of it... we will let you know how we get on!

So, after this manic weekend, I was so glad when Shams alarm went off this morning that it was for him and not me!

Bye for now!

Where has the week gone?!

Its nearly Friday and I am not sure where the week has gone!
I have been pottering around Manly, reading lots and have managed to have lunch with various people!
Oh and I have had an interview too... only with an agency, but fingers crossed, something might come out of it!
We are having a girls night in at ours tomorrow and Sham is collecting the car we have hired for the weekend...

A nice easy weekend in the Shah household

Friday was a lovely girlie night in at Chez Watters. I came home full of pizza, wine and a mouth ache from laughing - just what I needed! To round up a lovely evening, I spoke to Jojo at home to catch up on the gossip and giggles! Its amazing that whenever I speak to her, I am always happy and homesick at the same time when I put the phone down!

Saturday was a bit of a write off cos both Roland and Sham were broken from their boys night out so we managed to get to Manly for lunch with Mark and Anita and then did not a lot until it was time to order a take away...

Roland left early Sunday morning - didn't manage to wake up to say goodbye!
I spent the WHOLE day at the mall with Sarina and actually managed to only buy things we needed for the house.. oh and a couple of tops (that I needed!!)

My friend Helen who is also unemployed has an interview this morning and although I wish her every luck, I will be gutted when she starts working cos I won't have anyone to hang around with!!

So its another week of applying for jobs for me!

Unemployed but keeping busy!

This is the end of my first week of being at home on my own...
I have been surprisingly busy!

Roland (our friend from home) arrived on Wednesday and was welcomed with potato and pea curry, rotli, veg rice and mango pulp! (my mum will be so proud when she reads this!!)

Yesterday, my friend Helen came over for the day and we had a lovely day gossiping, walking in Manly and pasta!

Last night, we went for dinner with my cousin Mala and her family. They moved to Australia from kenya about 8 years ago and live just outside Perth. I haven't seen Mala since I was 16 and always thought that I got my chatty nature just fom my mums side of the family - I stand corrected!!
It was lovely to spend time with the closest family I have on this side of the world and we look forward to going to visit them.

I am holding off on job hunting too seriously as I really want to make the most of the sunshine in Sydney. Since the clocks changed, its been getting dark really quickly at about 6pm! But its fine cos the days are still lovely and sunny.

Finally seem to have started that healthy life we moved here for!

Shamir and I are both eating much better than we did at home - mainly cos one or both of us have been at home so we are cooking more... although eating out is quite cheap here too.
Food shopping is comparible to the UK (most of our shopping is vegetarian, so this might be different for meat eaters), but there are only 2 main supermarket chains so not too much competition!

Anyway, so we are eating well, but until now, I hadn't done any proper excercise since Jan! So I have just been for an hours walk along the beach, to Manly and back. Its quite hilly here so i am knackered!!

I could get used to this!

Bye for now!

Things I love about being in Sydney

Again, in no real order...
  • The weather
  • How cheap it is to eat out
  • Always being close to the sea
  • Reasonably priced public transport
  • All the lovely new friends we have made
  • Our social life as a couple
  • All the cooking I have been doing
  • Tim Tams!!!

What I miss...

In no particular order...
  • Friends and family... thank god for Facebook and Skype!
  • Twiglets
  • Hula hoops
  • Regency!
  • Decent cheap clothes
  • Proper chocolate!
  • Books.. they are soooo expensive here!
  • Lucozade

Testing...

Ok, so I need to do something constructive while I am job hunting in Sydney... so lets see how this works out for me!

Shamir and I have been here in Sydney since Dec 2008 and we can't believe how the time has flown!
We have both had ups and downs since we got here, but we both love it here. We have been very lucky to find a lovely group of people who are in a similar situation... all thanks to the Internet!

Ok, so I am going to trawl around the Internet to see what fun stuff I can add to this blog...
